What is a PLC
Programme:

a
recognised preparatory route both to employment and to further
education.

suitable for students who need further
education and training to enhance their chances of gaining employment.

help students to develop the skills needed for specific
occupations.

Who should
apply?:
|

Applicants should have completed the
Leaving Certificate or equivalent and show a special interest in
the course of study chosen.

A PLC course can be an excellent
foundation year for those postponing entry to University.
-
It should also be considered as a
serious alternative to repeating the Leaving Certificate.

Mature students who do not meet
the normal academic requirements may be admitted to a course on the
basis of their experience and motivation.

Students with disabilities are invited to the College to
discuss their special requirements.

What will the course
entail?:
|
- Courses specialise in specific areas of study.
- Offering a mixture of practical,
theoretical work and
work experience.
- Project work is the norm. Skills are
developed and the results are often brilliant.

Certification: |
- All our PLC courses are certified by FETAC
and are
fully recognised nationally.
|
|
Will a PLC course
help me get into college? |
- FETAC Awards
provide for progression and transfer of students to Universities and
Institutes of Technology.
- The FETAC award code appropriate to each
course is listed in the following pages. Details of the linked courses
are available in the FETAC Links Guide and CAO Website. When applying
for a linked course through the CAO system - the FETAC Award results may
be used in place of Leaving Certificate points.

Transport: |
- School transport
services from outlying areas are available to PLC students.
|
|
Fees: |
- A registration charge of €40
will be payable by all students
- All students will incur exam fees
of €20
|
|
Maintenance Grants: |
- A means-tested maintenance grant scheme is
available for PLC students.
- Apply to Kerry Education Service, Dan Spring
Road, Tralee, or your local VEC.

|
Non EU Nationals: |
- Non European students (such as those with a student visa or green
handbook) will be required to pay a full
economic course fee. However persons who have been granted either
Asylum, Refugee status, or leave to remain on humanitarian grounds, may
be entitled to free tuition. All such
applicants must be in possession of the notification of their right to
work. Applicants should contact the College
for further clarification.
