Parents’ Council
In Partnership. In Conversation. In Community.
At Killorglin Community College, we believe that strong relationships between home and school are key to student success. Our Parents’ Council plays a vital and valued role in supporting our students’ learning, wellbeing, and school experience.
Parent/guardian voice is not just welcomed—it is woven into the everyday life of our school.
What the Parents’ Council Does:
The Parents’ Council contributes to school life in practical, consultative, and collaborative ways:
- Supports School Events and Fundraising
Parents/guardians lead and assist with seasonal raffles, wellbeing days, school celebrations, and inclusive initiatives such as sensory spaces and sports equipment.
- Provides Feedback and Consultation
Council members offer thoughtful insights on school policies, procedures, and initiatives—especially in areas like student wellbeing, inclusion, and communication.
- Welcomes and Informs New Families
The Council helps create a sense of community by welcoming incoming families and sharing lived experience from a parent/guardian perspective.
- Works Closely with School Leadership
The Principal and senior leadership team actively consult with the Parents’ Council to ensure family voice is central to decision-making.

Strengthening Family-School Partnership
We believe in active, respectful collaboration between school and home. This happens through:
- Individual Transition Meetings
Every incoming family meets with school staff before their young person starts at Killorglin Community College. This may include Principal, Deputy Principal, HSCL and/or SENCO.
- Three-Way Progress Reviews
Students, parents/guardians, and teachers meet as equal partners to discuss progress and set goals.
- Open Communication
We are committed to clear, timely, and transparent communication, including updates through VSware, progress reports, and regular check-ins.
