A Supportive Start to Post-Primary Education
At Killorglin Community College, we believe in creating a warm and inclusive welcome for every young person joining our school. Whether your child is starting First Year, transferring from another school, or arriving from overseas, our admissions process is clear, supportive, and focused on student wellbeing from day one.
We value open communication with parents/guardians and will support you at each step of the journey.
▶ First-Year Admissions
Each year, Killorglin Community College welcomes a new cohort of First-Year students into our caring and dynamic learning community.
Our admissions process for First-Year follows the school’s published Admissions Policy and includes the submission of:
- A completed Application Form (available online or from the school office)
- A copy of your child’s long-form birth certificate
- Proof of address for the parent/guardian
- Any relevant documentation for students with additional needs
Applications are considered in line with our published enrolment criteria, which include:
- Living within the school's catchment area
- Having a sibling currently or previously enrolled
- Other priority considerations outlined in our Admissions Policy
Families are encouraged to attend our annual Open Evening, where students and staff showcase the best of learning and student life at Killorglin Community College. This is a great opportunity to get a feel for the school, ask questions, and view our facilities.
▶ Enrolment in the Special Class (ASD)
Killorglin Community College is proud to offer two dedicated Special Class for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Rang Sonas.
This setting provides additional support within a nurturing environment, allowing students to thrive while accessing the wider curriculum.
To apply for a place in the Special Class, families will be asked to submit:
- A recent educational or clinical psychological report (e.g. NEPS/HSE/Private)
- A completed application form indicating preference for the Special Class
- Any other supporting documentation confirming eligibility
All applications are carefully considered in line with our Admissions Policy and Department of Education guidelines.

▶ Mid-Cycle Transfers
We welcome applications from students who wish to transfer into Killorglin Community College from another post-primary school.
Transfer applications are considered on a case-by-case basis and are subject to:
- Availability of places in the relevant year group
- Compatibility of subject options
- Review of prior educational history and attendance
- A consultation meeting with parents/guardians and school leadership
Families interested in transferring their young person to Killorglin Community College are encouraged to contact the school office to discuss the process and arrange a meeting.
▶ Supporting Your Young Person’s Transition to KCC
No matter how or when a student joins us, we are committed to making their transition a positive one. Supports include:
- Welcome meetings and orientation events
- Individual support plans for students with SEN or EAL
- Student mentoring and peer support
- Close collaboration with feeder schools and external agencies
- A focus on wellbeing and belonging
Our Student Support Team, Year Heads, and HSCL (Home School Community Liaison) Coordinator are always on hand to assist.
