Book Scheme & Lockers
At Killorglin Community College, we proudly operate a Book Loan Scheme that supports all students and families. This scheme ensures equal access to essential learning materials while promoting shared responsibility and respect for resources.
Book Scheme: What You Need to Know
The book scheme is funded by a government grant and provides students with the full set of materials needed for learning — including textbooks, copies, folders, and calculators (where required).
Key Points:
- One Set per Student
Each young person is issued one full set of books and a school journal at the beginning of the year.
- Barcode System
Books are tracked using a unique barcode assigned to each student. This allows the school to manage and monitor resources effectively.
- Return and Responsibility
Books must be returned at the end of the school year in good condition. Any lost or damaged books must be replaced by the student.
- New and Second-Hand Resources
The scheme includes both new and gently used materials to support sustainability and reduce costs.
- Textbook Storage
All materials must be stored securely in school lockers or bags. Books left unattended may be confiscated, and repeated issues will be addressed under the Code of Behaviour.
- Calculator Responsibility
Calculators provided through the scheme are intended to last the student for the entirety of their school career. Students are expected to care for them appropriately. Replacements due to damage or loss may incur a cost.
- Respect for Materials
All school-issued resources must be treated with care. Defacing barcode labels or books will be addressed under the school's behaviour policy.
Lockers: Safe and Secure Storage
Each student is assigned a locker at the beginning of the year to help manage books and belongings.
Locker Guidelines:
- Always Lock Your Locker
Students are responsible for keeping their lockers locked. Combinations should be memorised and never shared.
- Lost Locks
A €20 replacement fee applies if a student loses their lock.
- Use Assigned Locker Only
Students must only use the locker assigned to them. Tampering with other lockers is not permitted.
- During Class
Textbooks and other items should be kept in lockers or school bags during class. Unattended materials may be confiscated for safekeeping.
By promoting personal responsibility and organisation, the book scheme and locker system help ensure that every young person is fully equipped to succeed at Killorglin Community College.
