Digital Learning Powered by UDL
Empowering 21st-Century Learners through Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
At Killorglin Community College, digital learning is more than using technology — it’s about making learning accessible, inclusive, and engaging for every student. Guided by the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), we ensure that all learners can access the curriculum, express their understanding in different ways, and succeed at their own pace.
What UDL Means at Killorglin Community College
-
Multiple ways to access learning – whether through text, audio, video, or visuals.
-
Multiple ways to show understanding – from presentations to projects, coding to creative design.
-
Multiple ways to stay engaged – making learning relevant, challenging, and enjoyable for all.
Digital tools are embedded in every classroom to support this flexible approach, ensuring students with different needs and abilities can thrive together.
Digital Tools for Learning
Every student is trained in Microsoft Office 365, the hub of teaching and learning at KCC.
-
Microsoft Teams – assignments, feedback, and communication all in one place.
-
Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, and Forms – supporting academic and creative tasks.
-
Built-in accessibility tools (Immersive Reader, Dictate, Transcribe) used across subjects to support literacy, language, and learning differences.
These tools are not optional extras — they are part of how we deliver UDL in every classroom.
Junior Cycle: Computer Fundamentals Short Course
We are proud to offer the Computer Fundamentals short course, developed in-house at KCC and approved by the NCCA. It gives students practical, hands-on digital skills, including:
-
Microsoft tools training.
-
Coding in JavaScript, Python, and Scratch.
-
App development, 3D design, and photo editing.
-
Game design and storytelling with CS First.
-
Video editing with WeVideo.
This course helps every Junior Cycle student gain confidence as a digital creator, not just a digital user.
Digital Literacy & Support Tools
We also provide a wide range of platforms that support personalised learning:
-
Sora App – eBooks and audiobooks through our JCSP partnership.
-
IXL – tailored practice in English and Maths for every student.
-
Pixlr Editor – digital design and photo editing.

These tools are used as part of mainstream lessons, giving all students opportunities to practise, reinforce, and extend their learning.
Digital Wellbeing
Technology brings great opportunities, but it must be balanced. At Killorglin Community College, we educate students about:
-
Staying safe online and using social media responsibly.
-
Managing screen time and maintaining balance.
-
Using technology in ways that support wellbeing, learning, and personal growth.
At Killorglin Community College, UDL is the foundation of digital learning. Students don’t just use technology — they learn how to access information, create, collaborate, and lead with it. Our goal is simple: to prepare every student with the confidence and skills to thrive in a digital world.
