Senior Cycle Redevelopment: What It Means for Your Young Person

The Senior Cycle in Ireland is undergoing transformation — and Killorglin Community College is embracing the change.

Senior Cycle redevelopment aims to:

  • Reduce over-reliance on a single final exam

  • Increase focus on real-life skills such as teamwork, communication, digital literacy, and critical thinking

  • Offer flexible assessments including projects, portfolios, and oral presentations

  • Make learning more inclusive, engaging, and relevant to the modern world

At KCC, we already offer many of these features through:

  • LCVP coursework and project-based learning

  • Computer Science and Engineering, which involve hands-on, applied learning

  • Erasmus+ exchanges, which promote global awareness and student voice

  • Our strong emphasis on wellbeing, mentoring, and leadership development

We are actively preparing for this transition — ensuring our students are not just exam-ready, but life-ready.
