Supporting Every Student: Our DEIS Plan
Killorglin Community College is a proud DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) school. This means we receive additional resources and supports from the Department of Education to ensure that every student has the chance to reach their full potential.
Our DEIS Plan 2024–2027 focuses on key areas that directly benefit students and families:
-
Retention & Attendance – Keeping students engaged, supported, and on track from First Year through to Leaving Cert.
-
Literacy & Numeracy – Extra strategies in every subject to strengthen key skills for exams, college, and life.
-
Teaching & Learning – Teachers use data (e.g. CAT scores via Athena) to set ambitious, realistic targets for each student.
-
Wellbeing & Belonging – Initiatives like the House System, Nurture Groups, and mentoring programmes ensure students feel safe, included, and supported.
-
Progression to College & Careers – Through mentoring, university access programmes, and local industry links, we help students take the next step with confidence.
-
Partnership with Parents – We work closely with families, keeping communication open and making sure support is consistent between home and school.
In simple terms, DEIS allows us to do more for our students — more targeted teaching, more support where it’s needed, and more opportunities to help every young person succeed.
